Gulf provided professional services for the preliminary and detailed design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the pipeline and compression facilities owned by Dakota Gasification Company in North Dakota and Saskatchewan. The purpose of the project was to compress waste gas from the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah, N.D., and transport the high-pressure CO2 to the oil fields in western North Dakota and southeastern Saskatchewan, Canada, to be used for tertiary oil recovery.

The project consisted of two systems: the compression station at the Synfuels Plant providing 95 MMSCF/D of CO2, and a 205-mile pipeline extending from the compression station to the Weyburn oil field in Saskatchewan.
