Gulf is proud to be an active member of the community in which we live and work. We strive to make positive impacts in our community through blood, food and toy drives, as well as volunteering with a variety of organizations.
Rebuilding Together Houston
Last October, several Gulf employees and members of the University of Houston's Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) participated in Rebuilding Together Houston. They worked to repair, 91-year-old, Mrs. Brown's house. The repairs involved power washing, scraping paint, replacing siding, caulking, priming, painting, repairing and replacing screens, putting in a new mailbox, painting the front porch floor, and installing two new storm doors and a porch light. Gulf looks forward to lending a helping hand at the next event. For more information about Rebuilding Together Houston, visit http://www.rebuildingtogetherhouston.org.
Gulf holds blood drives for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center on a quarterly basis. Several employees participate at each event. Each donor donates up to a pint of blood. In a medical emergency, the most crucial element is often blood. Donating helps those who have leukemia and other cancers, born prematurely, trauma victims, burn patients, anemic patients, among others. Go to http://www.giveblood.org for more information about the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
Each November, Gulf holds its annual food drive for the Houston Food Bank. This year, Gulf employees donated 222 non-perishable food items that weighed a total of 209 lbs. In addition to food donations, employees also made cash donations. Hunger affects 900,000 people in southeast Texas alone. On a daily basis, 66,200 people go hungry—2,800 are children. Gulf’s annual contribution aids in putting an end to hunger. To learn more about the Houston Food Bank, go to http://www.houstonfoodbank.org.
Gulf’s Chairman, Doug Evans, was named as a board member for the Crossroads School in 2009. Since then, he has volunteered his time, business ideas and visions for the successful future of the school and its students. Crossroads School recognizes a need to help countless school age children in the Houston area by lessening their struggle to learn. The struggle comes from living with a learning difference. Adopt – a – Family
Each December, Gulf holds its annual Adopt-a-Family drive. Employees spread the holiday spirit by choosing a family and contributing the items requested. Trucks deliver the gifts to the families, and are often met with surprised and speechless children. Gulf has participated in its Adopt-a-Family event for over a decade. Each year has been a huge success and we look forward to continuing the gift-giving spirit for many years to come.
Community Support - Wolfe Elementary School
Gulf joined Katy Independent School District’s partnering program to become a sponsor for our neighboring Wolfe Elementary School. Gulf proudly sponsors all of these bright young students that we see arriving for class and playing outside everyday. Gulf employees have shared their knowledge regarding an engineer’s job description and responsibilities, as well as, how oil is processed with several classes at Wolfe Elementary. Gulf has also served as judges at the Wolfe Elementary Science Project Event and chaperoned several fourth grade classes from Wolfe Elementary on a field trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Students viewed exhibits and presentations on pipeline and energy development, and wrote reports about what they learned.
